Product Care
Proper care and maintenance are crucial when caring for outdoor furniture. Covering or storing these pieces when not in use will help prevent fading and extend the lifespan of your product. In general, our products are all low maintenance and if cared for and looked after will maintain their appearance for many, many years.
In general, we recommend you always clean up spills immediately and dust and clean regularly with a soft cloth to maintain and extend the life of your outdoor furniture. For any specific questions or concerns, please contact us via email at sales@sissonne.au.
Teak
Teak is the premium natural material for outdoor furniture. Teak is an extremely durable hardwood; it requires very little care to preserve its good looks and integrity over decades of use. Teak requires no special treatment or coating to extend its long life and will weather to a beautiful grey patina over time. Should you wish to maintain the original colour of your furniture, maintenance every 6-12 months will achieve this. We can recommend the best product for this purpose.
Note: When maintaining your teak furniture, care should be taken that rope or fabrics do not come into contact with the teak stain as this will likely result in permanent staining.
Ecolene®
A number of the products in our range are made from Ecolene®, the latest technology in polyethylene synthetic wicker that is more durable, insensitive to temperature differences, free from cracking, splintering and corrosion yet still retains a natural look and feel. These pieces are comfortable, durable and incredibly practical as they are lightweight and some pieces are stackable, when not in use. These products will endure many years of exposure to the elements whilst maintaining their beautiful appearance.
Rattan
Rattan is very low maintenance, requiring nothing more than dusting with a soft cloth or a gentle vacuum clean with a brush attachment. We do not recommend natural rattan be left outside in the weather as it will deteriorate over time. We recommend natural rattan pieces are covered or put undercover to maintain the condition for an extended period of time.
Synthetic Water Hyacinth
A small number of our products are produced with synthetic water hyacinth. This product is easily maintained by wiping with a soft damp cloth. Synthetic water hyacinth can withstand all weather conditions, however we would not recommend it being left outside for extended periods of time without a cover or undercover when not in use.
Olefin Fabric
We use Olefin fabric on all of our products. Olefin is a premium outdoor fabric, is soft, smooth and extremely durable. In addition Olefin's production is more environmentally sound and fibres are fully recyclable after use. Most marks can be removed with a soft, damp cloth and a solution of luke warm water and gentle detergent eg Softly. If the covers need a full clean, they can be machine washed on a gentle cycle, max 20-30c with zips zipped up. Covers should then be left to air dry.
'Quick Dry' Reticulated Foam
All of our foam cushioning is made with 'quick-dry' reticulated foam. This is a premium foam made specifically for marine/outdoor use. The product is engineered with fine holes throughout to enable rain/water to quickly flow through the cushioning so they dry out extremely quickly and can be used shortly after exposure to bad weather. This design greatly reduces the opportunity for mould or mildew to occur and maximises the life of the cushion.
Marine-Grade Rope
All of our pieces comprise marine-grade rope and are designed to be low maintenance, generally only requiring a wipe over with a light cloth. We do not recommend treatment with fabric or upholstery protectors which may affect the rope. When spills occur, wipe them up immediately with a soft cloth soaked in mild soapy water. Work the solution into the surface with a blotting motion or by using light pressure. Rinse the surface thoroughly and allow it to air dry. Abrasive materials, excessive scrubbing, or high-pressure hoses are not recommended. In addition, sharp objects should be kept away from ropes to avoid any cutting or fraying of the rope.
Note: it is important that when maintaining your teak furniture, the rope does not come into contact with the teak treatment which could result in staining of the rope.
